More Than a Music Shop. A Labor of Love.

The Rock It Rocket was born out of a simple observation: Alamogordo needed a real home for music. A place where instruments get repaired with care, musicians can grow, and the community can come together around the thing that connects us all — sound.

So Kristen and Jason Nix decided to build it.

The People Behind the Rocket

Jason Nix has been living and breathing music his entire life — as a player, a gear obsessive, a show-goer, and a craftsman. He's a trained luthier with years of hands-on experience repairing and restoring instruments, and he previously owned and operated his own guitar shop. When he saw that Alamogordo had no real destination for quality instrument repair, he knew exactly what to do about it.

Kristen Nix brings a deep love of music and a drive to make Rock It Rocket something bigger than a storefront. She's working alongside Jason to build a space where musicians of all ages and skill levels feel welcome — a place where music doesn't just get sold, but genuinely grows.

Together, they're not just running a business. They're building something for this community.

The Building

We're proud to be housed in one of the oldest buildings on Alamogordo's historic Main Street — and we'll be honest, it's got a story.

Before it was a music venue, repair shop, and rehearsal space, this building served as the town's morgue, mortuary, and funeral home. We like to think the spirits are still here — just with better taste in music now.

Jason and Kristen have been putting real work into restoring the building to its former glory, honoring its history while filling it with something new: creativity, community, and a whole lot of noise.

What We're Building

The Rock It Rocket is more than the sum of its services. Lessons, repairs, live events, rehearsal space — all of it is in service of one idea: that Alamogordo deserves a place where music can truly flourish.
